IAEA chief urges Iran to be very transparent in order to restore JCPOA

IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi on Monday said that “it is going to be extremely difficult” for his agency to restore continuity of knowledge regarding the status of Iran’s nuclear program given that his inspectors’ access has been limited for several months.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, he added, “we will have to work very very hard and Iran will have to be very transparent in giving us information accesses, so we can put back a picture” of where the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program stands.

In his speech to the IAEA board, he said that in order to get a real handle on the status of Iran’s nuclear program, “We would also need to determine the comprehensiveness and accuracy of data recorded by our surveillance equipment.”
